Walter James Scherman

Walter James Scherman, 89 of Ellendale, ND died July 18, 2011 at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale. The funeral service will be 10:30am Saturday, July 23 at St. Helena's Catholic Church, Ellendale with Father John F. Kizito officiating. Visitation is Friday 2-8pm with a prayer servcie at 7pm all at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Burial will be at St. Helena's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Walter James Scherman, 89, Ellendale, ND was born January 3, 1922, in Leola, SD. He was the son of Paul J. Sr. and Clara (Goeschel) Scherman. Walt finished high school in Leola and served in the United States Navy for four years. Walt married Loretta Schilling at Leola on July 27, 1950. They then moved to Ellendale, ND where Walt started his career as an electrician. He worked for MDU for 35 years and retired. Upon his retirement, they continued to reside in Ellendale. Walt died July 18, 2011, at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale. Walt is survived by his wife, Loretta Scherman of 61 years, one son: David (Cindi) of Fruita, CO; two daughters: Janet (Gary) Wagner of Mountain Home, ID, Pat Gibson of Boise, ID; five grandchildren; one step grandchild and three great-grandchildren. Walt was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
