Larry A. Hagen

Larry A. Hagen, 78 of Ellendale, ND was born May 7, 1933, in Ellendale Township in Dickey County near Ellendale, ND. He was the son of Lawrence and Frances (Barsness) Hagen. As a young child, his family moved to Ellendale, ND. He graduated from Ellendale high school in 1954 and enlisted in the United States Army the same year. After his discharge in 1957, he attended the State Normal and Industrial College in Ellendale. On February 5, 1961, Larry married Betty J. Bertsch at Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale. Larry worked for various businesses in Ellendale until November 1968 when Larry started working for Mobil Oil Corp as a Consignee. In 1982 the business was purchased by Larry and Betty and it became known as Hagen Oil Company Inc. On October 31, 2003, Larry sold his business and retired. On November 16, 2006, Larry entered Prince of Peace Care Center where he resided until his death August 14, 2011. Larry was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale. He was also an active member of the Ellendale Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion and the VFW. He loved watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed having coffee with his friends, gardening and his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife: Betty Hagen, Ellendale, ND; one son: Jeffrey (Diana) Hagen, Ellendale, ND; one daughter: Cheryl Endres, Ellendale, ND; three grandsons: Weston (Barbie) Hagen, Bismarck, ND, Duston (Michelle) Hagen, Lincoln, ND, Easton Hagen, Ellendale, ND; one granddaughter: Carolyn Endres, Ellendale, ND; three brothers: Robert (Barb) Hagen, Port Townsend, WA, Norman (Louise) Hagen, Bismarck, ND, Dennis (Virginia) Hagen, Fullerton, ND; two sisters: Dolly (Ray) Buckhouse, Maple Grove, MN, Rosemary (Tom) McGough, Miller, SD. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. The funeral service is 1:30pm Thursday, August 18 at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Tyson Labuhn officiating. Visitation is 2pm to 6:30pm Wednesday with a prayer service at 5:30pm at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Burial is at Ellendale City Cemetery.
