Charles Hample

Charles Hample, 61 of Ellendale, ND died September 25, 2011, at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale. A memorial service is 2pm Thursday at Peace Chapel, Prince of Peace Care Center with Pastor Tyson Labuhn officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be at Glover Cemetery, Glover, ND. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Charles H. Hample was born March 24, 1950, to Myrtle (Barton) Hample and Theodore Hample at Oakes, ND. In 1950 Charles was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in LaMoure, ND. Charles grew up on the family farm in Dickey County, North Dakota. He attended Special Education School in Oakes and Opportunity School in Fargo, ND for a brief time. Charles continued to live on the farm until he and his mother moved to Ellendale, ND in the early 1970’s. In July 1989, he entered the facility of “4th Corporation” in Carrington, ND for people with disabilities, later transferring to New Rockford, ND. In October 1992 he moved to Pierre, SD to be near family and under the care of Oahe Inc. where he attended workshops and was employed. It was there that he had the opportunity of participating in Special Olympics winning several medals and a ribbon in the long jump. Charles loved the outdoors. He enjoyed mowing grass, raking leaves and shoveling snow and was very meticulous in all his work. Charles loved to dance and enjoyed music very much, especially Elvis Presley. In July 2000 when his health began to decline Charles moved to Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale, ND, again to be near family. Charles died September, 25, 2011, at Prince of Peace Care Center. Survivors include one brother: Jack Reilly of Oakes, ND; four sisters: Maxine Marvick, Loveland, CO, Marilyn Norwick, Billings, MT, Carmen (Darwin) Heyd, Pierre, SD, Shirley (Darwyn) Worrell, LaMoure, ND; two sisters-in-law: Mavis Hample, LaMoure, ND, Shirley Hample, Billings, MT and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two brothers-in-law: Al Marvick, Elroy Ness; one sister-in-law: Nora Reilly; two brothers: Ted Jr. and Paul Hample; one sister: Veragene Ness and four nephews: Brian and Todd Hample, Kim Heyd and Bobby Gott.
