Shirley Ann Engbrecht, 76 of Ellendale, ND died March 5, 2012 at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND. The funeral service is 10:30am Monday, March 12 at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Raymond Pomplun officiating. Visitation is 3-8pm Sunday at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale and prayer service at 7pm. Visitation is also one hour prior to services at the church. Burial is at the Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel. Shirley Ann (Timpe) Engbrecht was born to Walter and Olga (Olson) Timpe in Almont, ND, on July 19, 1935. She was the youngest child in a family of three brothers and three sisters. They lived in Almont until Shirley was 3 years old and then they moved to a farm in the surrounding area. Shirley went to a country school until she was in the 7th grade. She graduated from Almont High School in 1951 and then attended Dickinson State Teachers College. She acquired a 2nd grade Elementary Teacher’s Certificate and taught in surrounding schools until her marriage to Floyd Engbrecht. Floyd and Shirley were married June 24, 1955 and moved to Jamestown, ND. When Floyd was hired by the state of ND to work at a weigh station, they moved to Carrington, ND. It was here that their three children were born - Debra, Robin, and Michael. In 1964, Floyd transferred to Ellendale, ND as a weigh station supervisor for the new station built there. When Mike started school, Shirley worked at a variety of jobs until her employment as a U.S. Postal clerk. Shirley and Floyd both retired from their jobs in 1996. Shirley was an artist. She loved painting in oils and painted many pictures that her friends and family display in their homes. She painted the two murals on the Corner Corral. Shirley was also a seamstress and sewed many clothes for her two daughters as they were growing up. Shirley and Floyd have been members of the Zion Lutheran Church for many years and enjoyed bowling on the church league. Shirley was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. More than anything else, she loved her family - both immediate and extended - and loved it when everyone got together. Shirley is survived by her husband, Floyd Engbrecht, two daughters, Debra Hafey of Mobridge, SD, and Robin Rattei (Lester) of Pierre, SD, one son, Michael Engbrecht (Monica) of Princeton, MN, ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother, Bob Timpe (Char) of Bismarck, ND, and one sister, Elaine Hochhalter of Elgin, ND. Shirley was preceded in death by one infant son, Douglas, her parents, Walter and Olga (Olson) Timpe, two brothers, Wallace and Marvin Timpe, two sisters, Evelyn (Timpe) Bachmann and Olive (Timpe) Held, her mother and father-in-law, Floyd W. and Ileta (Sundel) Engbrecht, and one grandson, Cory James Rattei.
