Anna M. Smith, 77, of Aberdeen, SD formerly of Monango, ND died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. The funeral service is 2pm Wednesday, April 4 at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, ND with Pastor Patrick O’Brien officiating. Visitation is 2-6:30pm Tuesday with a prayer service at 5:30pm at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Burial is at Monango City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel. Anna Marie Smith, 77, of Aberdeen, SD formerly of Monango, ND was born February 16, 1935, at rural Hillsview, SD. She was the daughter of George and Karolina (Guthmiller) Ketterling. Anna was raised in the rural Long Lake, SD area and educated in country schools. After her education, she was employed at Halls Café in Ellendale. On June 27, 1955, Anna married Gene Smith in Aberdeen, SD. After they were married, Anna was an active farm wife who enjoyed raising poultry, loved gardening, cooking, embroidering and spending time with her grandchildren. Anna was an avid pool player on both women’s and men’s leagues for several years. Anna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale and LWML. Anna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a good listener and a person who could always be counted on for helping friends and family. Survivors include her husband: Gene Smith, Monango, ND; three sons: Tim Smith, Monango, ND, David (Angie) Smith, Eureka, SD, Harley Smith, Wahpeton, ND, one daughter: Peggy Smith, Custer, SD; six grandchildren: Amber (Jason) Miller, Austin (Jasmine)Smith, Allyssa (Thomas) Moch, Cody, Justin, and Emily Smith; three great grandchildren: Shelby, Walker, and Marlee Miller; two sisters: Esther Schock, Aberdeen, SD; Emma Kleinknecht, Jamestown, ND; one brother: Martin Ketterling, Bismarck, ND; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
