Leonard Elif Vasvick, 91 of Ellendale, ND died November 4, 2012 at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale. The funeral service is 11am Wednesday, November 7 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Ellendale. Visitation is 3-8pm Tuesday and prayer service at 7pm at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Burial is at Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel. Leonard Elif Vasvick was the son of Sever andMarie (Johnson) Vasvick born on August 5, 1921 in Kentner Township, Dickey County, ND. Leonard attended rural school in Van Meter Township then helped his father on the farm. Leonard entered the United States Navy in 1945 working as a carpenters mate in the CB’s. On May 10, 1947, Leonard married Marie Wiederrich in Ellendale. After living in Montana a short time, they returned to Monango to build and operate Len’s café. The café later became their home in Van Meter Township. They raised grain and livestock until moving to Ellendale. Marie died June 15, 2010. Leonard was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, the VFW and a 50-year member of the American Legion Herman-Schlinker Post 137. Leonard was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and trapping. He also enjoyed a competitive game of pinochle or cribbage with family and friends. Survivors include one son: Larry (Karen) Vasvick, Ellendale, two daughters: Kathy (Larry) Exner, LaMoure, Luanne (Steve) Slykerman, LaMoure; 12 grandchildren: Erin (Gary) Lukban, Tracy, CA, Ricki (Brandon) Rekow, Wade & Kyle Vasvick all of Ellendale, Kenton (Roxy) Exner, Cologne, MN, MarcExner, Brewster, MA, Staci (Lèo) Kenny, Stonewall, MB Canada, Amanda (Tatem) Brandt, Litchville, ND, Carly (Justin) Prochnow, Oakes, ND, Lee Slykerman, LaMoure, ND, Patty (Jae) Hallett and Will Hart both of Idaho; eight great grandchildren: Noah & Verena Lukban, Grace Marie Exner, Carter Rekow, Jessa & Bria Prochnow, Heather & Josh Hallett. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter Karann Hart, one brother, three sisters, one granddaughter Jana Marie Exner.
