Mamie M. Maunu

Mamie M. Maunu, 93, of Aberdeen, SD, formerly of Frederick, SD died November 20, 2012 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab. The funeral service is 2pm Sunday, November 25 at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale, ND with Pastor Jim Maunu officiating. Visitation is Saturday 4-7pm with a prayer service at 7pm at Hoven Funeral Chapel. Burial is at North Savo Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery, rural Frederick. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel. Mamie Mary (Nixon) Maunu was born July 2, 1919 to Oscar William and Amelia (Wainio) Nixon, near Ludden, ND. As a young girl, Mamie moved several times as her father was a share crop farmer. Mamie attended five different grade schools during her schooling years. In June 1942 Mamie married Arvo K. Maunu at Arvo's home place. Mamie and Arvo lived on Arvo's folks farm for about two years before purchasing their own farm with two quarters land and buildings in Savo township northeast of Frederick SD. This is the farm where their children grew up. Mamie's husband Arvo passed away on Nov 19, 1954, leaving Mamie to raise her 5 sons and 1 daughter by herself. It wasn't easy, but with God's help and good management by Mamie, the family did all right. Mamie's son Darwin took over the farm after he was married and Mamie, Dennis and Delmer moved to Frederick, SD. She is survived by three sons: Darwin (Diana) Maunu, Baldwin, WI, Delmer (Konnie) Maunu, Frederick, SD, Reino (Janet) Maunu, Watertown, SD; one daughter Delores Seppanen, Huron, SD; one sister-in-law: Bernice Nixon, Frederick, SD; 25 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; two nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sons: Dennis and Donald; five brothers: William, Edwin, Arne, and two infant brothers. Thank you Mom, Grandma, friend, Mamie for all you did for your family and those who knew you. We will never forget you. Love Always, Your family and friends
