Betty J. Kosel, 71, of Ellendale, ND died February 12, 2013 at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale, ND. Betty was born December 4, 1941 to Joseph and Rose Marie (Zimmerman) Heintzman in Hillsview, SD. She was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hillsview, SD. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Aberdeen, SD where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. After her father died, her family moved to Guelph, ND where she attended school for a short period of time, then went to work in Ellendale. On November 13, 1959 Betty married Kenny Kosel in Redfield, SD and they made their home mostly in Ellendale, but also, Wall, SD, Fullerton, ND and Long Lake, SD. Betty worked as a childcare provider for many years before working for Kosel’s Four Seasons Department Store in Ellendale. In 1985 Betty began helping Kenny in the meat market. After closing the meat market, Betty worked at various jobs in the community including The Nodak Café and the Fireside Restaurant. Betty enjoyed working with people, clerking her husband’s auction sales, antiques, the Minnesota Twins, following her grandchildren’s activities, playing pinochle on her iPad and cooking. Betty was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale and she was involved in O.P.E.R.A. Betty is survived by two sons: Todd (Loni) Kosel, Edgeley, ND, Russell (Merle) Kosel, Ellendale, ND; two daughters: Carmen (Mike) Divine, Mesa, AZ, Holly (Chris) Carr, Redfield, SD; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; two sisters: Lucy (Dave) Braach, Missoula, MT, Sandy (Dennis) Jacobson, Oakes, ND; one half-brother: Bryan (Holly) Salo, Montpelier, ND; two brothers-in-law: Don (Claudette) Kosel, Ashley, ND, Ron (Maxine) Kosel, Ellendale, ND; five sisters-in-law: Shirley Strand, Linton, ND, Bernice (Norman) Kruckenberg, Enumclaw, WA, Evelyn (Iver) Oster, Enumclaw WA, Carol and Kathy Kosel, both of Ellendale, ND; 29 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, mother and father in laws, one sister: Julia Tabbert; four brothers-in-law: Howard Kosel, Edward Strand, Herman Kuebler, Art Tabbert; one sister-in-law: Debra Kosel and one nephew: Kent Kruckenberg. The funeral is 10:30am Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Tom Eckstein officiating. Visitation is 2-8pm Friday with a prayer service at 7pm all at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Burial is at Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel.
