Ruth Ethel Tiegs, 98 of Ellendale, ND died June 1, 2013 at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale. The funeral service is 1:30pm Wednesday, June 5 at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Tom Eckstein officiating. Visitation is 2-6pm Tuesday at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Burial will be at Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel. Ruth Ethel Tiegs was born July 2, 1914 to Hamilton and Rosa (Miller) Gibson in Ellendale. She was educated in Ellendale. On July 14, 1932, Ruth married Herman Carl Tiegs Jr. They farmed in the Ellendale area until 1955. They then moved to Ottumwa, IA where they managed the bowling center that they eventually purchased. Upon retirement in 1971 they sold their business and returned to Ellendale. Herman died August 14, 1976. Ruth resided in Ellendale until her death at Prince of Peace Care Center June 1, 2013. Ruth was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, and American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, baking and dancing. Ruth’s progeny include: two sons: Gary Tiegs, Ellendale, ND, Curtis Tiegs, Viera, FL; one daughter: LaPalma McShane, Ashley, ND; 11 grand children: Susan (James Dauer) Tiegs, Debra (Tiegs) Gene Eaton, Lori Tiegs, James (Jessica) Tiegs, Kristi (Tiegs) Stapleton, Rick (Dawn) Tiegs, Randy Tiegs, Tom (Karen) McShane, David (Suzie) McShane, Joan (McShane) Rick Barnhardt, Sekeeta Tiegs; 16 Great Grandchildren: Ian McShane, Joshua Barnhardt, Ryan McShane, Chris McShane, Jon McShane, Natalie Stapleton, Katie Stapleton, Michael Stapleton, Emily Stapleton, Raquel Pavelcek, Chelsie (Pavelcek) Bickel, Krista Eaton, Tyler Eaton, Alexis Teplitzky, Thomas Tiegs and Trent Tiegs. Three Great-great Grandchildren: Kamryn Ann Bickel (Chelsie Pavelcek), Baker James Simpson (Krista Eaton) and Mason Reily Velez (Alexis Teplitzky). She was preceded in death by her husband Herman; parents; one son: Loren Tiegs; one granddaughter: Deanna Tiegs; five brothers: Chester, Raymond, Lawrence, Roscoe, LaVon; one sister: Gladys.
