Katherine Wald

Katherine Wald, 89 of Ellendale, ND died July 22, 2013 at her home in Ellendale. The funeral is 10:30am Saturday, July 27 at St. Helena’s Catholic Church, Ellendale with Father John F. Kizito officiating. Visitation is 2-8pm with a prayer service at 7pm Friday at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Visitation is also one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial is at St. Helena’s Catholic Cemetery, Ellendale. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel. Katherine (Vetter) Wald, was born November 25, 1923 in Hague, ND. She was the daughter of Wendelin and Elizabeth (Feist) Vetter. She was raised near Hague on the family farm. Katherine was united in marriage to Andrew C. Wald on September 18, 1945 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hague. They lived on a farm near Napoleon, ND and later moved to Hague where they farmed and raised their eight children. In 1965 they moved to Herried, SD where Katherine worked in the hospital as a nurses aide. In 1975 they moved to Aberdeen, SD where Katherine was employed by Control Data Aberdeen for 10 years when she retired. At age 65, Katherine received a certified nursing assistant degree at Minneapolis Technical College for which the family was very proud. In 1990 she moved to Ellendale, ND where she enjoyed helping her daughter Lucy at Lucy’s Place Bar and Restaurant. She also enjoyed going to Fredonia to help her daughter Betty with canning and gardening. Katherine lived in Ellendale with her daughter Linda Siro until her death July 22, 2013. Katherine loved fishing, knitting, playing dice, cards, cooking, baking, gardening, word finds, and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed volunteering at church and attended mass as part of her daily routine. Katherine is survived by four sons: Conrad (Linda) Wald, Ham Lake, MN, Carey (Dawn) Wald, Ellendale, ND, Andrew Jr. Wald (special friend, Connie), Fullerton, ND, Wendelin Wald (special friend, Mark), Minneapolis, MN; three daughters: Lucy Hahne (special friend, Wayne), Ellendale, ND, Betty Hahne, Fredonia, ND, Linda Siro (special friend, Scott), Ellendale, ND; 20 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; two sisters: Alice Welk and Clara Lipp. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Andrew Wald, one son, Paul Wald, one grandson Alex Wald, one great granddaughter Madelyn Cross, two sons-in-law: Bernie Hahne and Willie Hahne.
