Dorothy M. Stahlecker, 90 of Ellendale, ND died September 26, 2013 at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale. She was born June 1, 1923 in rural Fullerton, ND to Gottlieb and Mary (Rittmiller) Fetzer. As a young child, Dorothy moved to Ellendale to live with her grandparents after her mother died. She attended school in Ellendale graduating from Ellendale High School in 1942. On March 12, 1944, Dorothy married Fred Stahlecker in Aberdeen, SD and they were married for 66 years. Dorothy helped Fred on the farm where it was also a gathering place for family on the holidays. Later, Dorothy began work as Post Master for 18 years at the Merricourt Post Office. Dorothy was a great cook and loved to entertain family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and canning her produce, especially pickles. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Survivors include: four nieces: Mary Lou (Bob) Bales, Cody, WY, Mona (Bob) Model, Cody, WY, Linda (Al) Eschler, Billings, MT, Diane Dietz, Powell, WY; Dorothy’s In-Law’s: Sharon (Tom) Vie, Oakes, ND, Harlan (Peg) Stahlecker, Crookston, MN, Rosine Stahlecker, Jamestown, ND, Norman (Rose) Stahlecker, Oakes, ND and June Suedmeier, Aberdeen, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred; son, Clark, one sister and two brothers. The funeral service is 10:30am Thursday, October 3 at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Tom Eckstein officiating. Visitation is 2-6pm Wednesday at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale and continuing at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial is at Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel.
