Ina Mae "Chickie" Newman

Ina Mae “Chickie” (Van Middlesworth) Newman, 98, of Ellendale formerly of Forbes and Fullerton, ND died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale. Chickie was born July 6, 1915, near Fullerton to Fred and Florence “Flossie” (Gregory) Van Middlesworth. She attended elementary school in Monango and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1935. Chickie married Virgil Newman October 8, 1938 in Aberdeen, SD. Throughout 60 years of marriage, they enjoyed many Gypsy Day parades on their anniversary. They began their married life in Forbes where Virgil taught and they lived for 21 years. In 1961, they moved to Ellendale where Virgil taught and Chickie worked in laundry at Ellendale Memorial Hospital. Chickie also worked at Prince of Peace Care Center for many years in the kitchen and activities. She retired from there at age 80 in 1995 due to Virgil’s declining health. Virgil died September 10, 1999. Chickie remained at home with her beloved canine companion, Kirby, until March 2005 when she moved into Evergreen Place. In October 2008 Chickie’s health began to decline and she moved to Prince of Peace Care Center. Chickie’s life revolved around Virgil, their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She loved to crochet, fish (clean them too), dance, watch baseball, Bible study, Christmas, making fried chicken, doughnuts, divinity, chocolate chip cookies and popcorn balls. She will be greatly missed for her youthful spirit and kind, generous ways. She leaves a son, Connie Mack (Carol) Newman, daughter, Virgie Lonnie (Neil) Wagner, five grandchildren: Jo (Chris) Bosak, Geri (Mike) Jacobson, Clay (Sarah) Wagner, Neilee (Shad) Thorstenson, Cale (Aida) Wagner, 14 great-grandchildren: Jack, Trent and Hannah Bosak; Delaney Ignace; William, Catherine, August, Beatrix and Ellis Wagner; Elsie, Abram and CoraLu Thorstenson; Mattea and Liev Wagner, sisters-in-law, Billee Webster and Phyllis Newman and special nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 10:30am Wednesday, February 5 at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale with Pastor Paul Henschen officiating. Visitation: 2-6:30pm Tuesday and prayer service at 5:30pm at the church. Visitation continues one hour prior to church services Wednesday. Burial: Maple View Cemetery in the spring, Fullerton. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
