Upon retirement, Benny filled his time by mowing many of the lawns in Ellendale and the local baseball diamond. He took great pride in the work he did. When Benny's health started to fail he resided at Evergreen Place and later he moved to Prince of Peace Care Center where he resided until his death July 14, 2014. In the past year, Benny enjoyed the relationship he was building with his grandson. Benny is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Michael and Carol Steinwand of Oshkosh, WI, one grandson: Nicholas Steinwand of Aberdeen, SD, very special friend of the family: Irene Reule, Ellendale, ND and many nieces and nephews.
