Phillip Walz

Phillip Walz, 99 of Ellendale, ND formerly Forbes, ND died April 10, 2015 at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale. Funeral services will be 10:30am Wednesday, April 15 at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale with Pastor Paul Henschen officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Burial is at Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Phillip Walz was born September 16, 1915 to Phillip Sr. and Christine (Madtke) Walz on the family farm in Albertha Township near Forbes, ND. He was educated in Albertha Township country school. Phillip married Pauline Meyer on July 6, 1941 at a Salem Congregational Church west of Forbes. Phillip and Pauline began working for the Chris and Marie Maier family before purchasing their own farm in 1942. Phillip and Pauline farmed together on their farm eight miles west of Forbes. They resided there, until they retired and moved into Ellendale in 1997. Pauline died October 29, 2000. Phillip was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church of Forbes where he also served as deacon and usher for many years. He enjoyed keeping track of the weather, fishing and carpentry work and spending time with the grandchildren. Phillip is survived by his son: Curt (Pam) Walz of Leola, SD, daughter: Phyllis Rall & special friend, Lenny Grimm of Fargo, ND, 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren 1 great-great granddaughter and 3 great-great grandchildren on-the-way. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, five sisters and two infant siblings.
