Laura McShane

Laura McShane, 98, of Ellendale, ND was born January 19, 1910, in Ellendale, ND. She was the daughter of Charles and Jennie (Carlson) Schandelmeier. Laura was raised in Ellendale and graduated from Ellendale High School in 1928. On January 22, 1930, Laura married Leonard M. McShane in Ellendale. After their marriage Laura began work at the Dickey County Agent’s office and later for the ASCS retiring as office manager after 38 1/2 years. On June 14, 1975 Leonard died and Laura continued to reside at her home in Ellendale. Laura moved to Evergreen Place in 2000 and moved to Prince of Peace Care Center in 2002. Laura died December 28, 2008, at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale. Laura enjoyed gardening, golfing, cards, bowling, crocheting, knitting and she was active in the community. Laura was a member of St. Helena’s Catholic Church, NDASCOE, Ellendale Golf Course, American Legion Auxiliary and was the first president of the VFW Auxiliary. Grateful to have shared in her life are one daughter Frances Muckenhirn, Enderlin, ND; five grandchildren: Joan (David) Morton, Baldwin, ND, John (Lorrie) Muckenhirn, Oakes, ND, Jim (Barb) Muckenhirn, Princeton, MN, Jeri (Dan) Vanak, Yuma, AZ, Janel (Ken) Simonson, Reiles Acres, ND; 10 great grandchildren: Laura (Bart) Bly, Eric and Casey Muckenhirn, Kelsey and Kara Simonson, Rich, Dezirae, Allan and Mary Hendrix and Melissa Vanak; three great-great grandchildren: Mario and Olivia Hendrix and Xander Bly; one brother: William Schandelmeier, Castro Valley, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard McShane, parents, two sisters: Isabel McCloud, Esther Rowe; son-in-law: Gerald Muckenhirn; one great-great grandchild and one infant brother. The funeral is 10:30am Friday at St. Helena’s Catholic Church, Ellendale with Father Duaine Cote officiating. Visitation is 3-5pm with prayer service at 5pm Thursday at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Burial is at St. Helena’s Catholic Cemetery, Ellendale.
