Gust Fredrick

Gust Fredrick, 79, of Ellendale, ND was born March 11, 1929, in Ellendale. He was the son of Louis and Julia (Steltzer) Fredrick. Gust was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale. He was raised on a farm between Fullerton, ND and Guelph, ND and attended country school. He worked for his uncle and aunt on a farm near Fullerton for several years. On January 2, 1951, Gust entered the United States Army and served in Korea and Japan. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army at Fort Lewis, WA on December 16, 1952 and returned to his uncle's farm where he worked a few more years. Later, he went to work in the Forbes, ND area moving hay stacks for farmers which he enjoyed very much. Gust met Martha Quast and on December 29, 1982, they were married in Aberdeen, SD sharing many happy years together. Later, Gust and Martha sold their farm and moved into Ellendale in 1993. On November 30, 2003, Martha died. Gust was last employed at the Star Light Café in Aberdeen where he worked until 2008. Gust died January 28, 2009 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen, SD. Gust was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale and the American Legion and VFW for 46 years. Gust enjoyed visiting, playing cards and giving the waiters and waitresses a bad time. Grateful to have shared in his life are two brothers: Emil (Kathi) Fredrick of Britton, SD, Art (Judy) Fredrick of Houghton, SD; three sisters: Helen Schock of Wishek, ND, Elsie (Bob) Titus of Ludden, ND, Hilda Mogck of Ferndale, WA; one sister-in-law: Nettie Fredrick of Ellendale, ND; one brother-in-law: Curtis Becker of Rapid City, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife four brothers: Edward, Robert, Henry, Edwin; one sister: Ida Becker. Casket Bearers: Arlyn Fredrick, Ned Fredrick, Jay Fredrick, Dale Fredrick, Tim Fredrick, Dean Fredrick, Alan Hayenga, Sheila Anderson; Organist: Marilyn Burow; Military Honors by Herman-Schlinker Post #137. The funeral service is 2pm Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Tyson Labuhn officiating. Visitation is 2-6pm Sunday at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale and Monday from 12pm to time of service at the church. Burial is in the spring at Ellendale City Cemetery with Military Honors by Herman-Schlinker Post #137.
