Allen Arthur Guenther

Allen Arthur Guenther, 86, Forbes, ND died October 16, 2015 at his home in Forbes. He was the son of Adam and Eva (Hoffman) Guenther on May 30, 1929. He was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in Leola, SD. He attended country school until 8th grade and continued his education at Ashley High School. After his education he began farming with his parents on the family farm 15 miles west of Forbes. On September 10, 1950 Allen married Bernice Jenner at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, ND and then continued farming with his parents. Allen retired from farming after Bernice died February 15, 2000. He resided on the farm until 2010 when he moved into Forbes. Allen was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Forbes serving as Elder and Trustee. He sang in the choir and served as Sunday School Superintendent. He also served on the Albertha Township Board and the Ashley Medical Center Board. Allen enjoyed farming and music. He had a special musical ability because he could play by ear and did not read notes. His favorite instruments were the accordion and organ. Allen and Bernice organized the Dakota Country Band where he played the accordion and Bernice played the drums. He loved to play the accordion for dances, reunions and entertaining residents at nursing homes. Allen was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed, but he will remain with his family in their memories. Survivors include his two sons: Timothy (Phaedra) Guenther, Lancaster, CA; Thomas (Paola) Guenther, Boca Raton, FL and one daughter: Nanette (Steve) Cornell, Mandan, ND; Grandchildren: Anita Cornell; Ian, Jared and Katlyn Guenther. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice, his parents, one brother and two sisters. The funeral service is 11am Saturday, October 24 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Forbes, with Pastor Alan Eppen officiating. Visitation is 3-7pm Friday with a prayer service at 5:30pm all at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale, ND. Visitation continues one hour prior to services at the church. Burial is at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Forbes. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
