Eleanor L. Young

Eleanor L. (Zinter) Young, 82 of Ellendale, ND was born September 22, 1926, on the Zinter family farm in Dickey County near Ellendale. She was the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Schaller) Zinter. Eleanor was raised and educated at a country school in Albion Township, rural Ellendale. She graduated in 1945 from Ellendale High School. She taught country school for a short time until she married Richard Young on December 11, 1945, at Albion Lutheran Church in Albion Township. In 1958 Eleanor and Richard moved to California where Eleanor was employed at a daycare center. In 1960, after returning to Ellendale, Eleanor started the first licensed daycare in North Dakota. When she stopped doing daycare, Eleanor helped Richard sell Maytag appliances. On March 1, 2001, Richard died and Eleanor continued to reside at her home in Ellendale. Eleanor died March 21, 2009, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen, SD. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) and the Ellendale Library Board. Grateful to have shared in her life are two sons: Terry Young, Watertown, SD, Richard (Twyla) Young, Ellendale, ND; one daughter: Donna (Marc) Mykkanen, Aberdeen, SD; one sister: Elizabeth Ann (Howard) Freeberg, West Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and one sister. The memorial service is 1pm Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Tyson Labuhn officiating. Organist: Marilyn Burow, Honorary Urn Bearers are Grandchildren: Nathan, Malia, Carol and Terry Young, Chris and Pat Cantey, Trevor, Nick, and Ryan Ulmer; Great-Grandchildren: Terry Young and Aiden Cantey. Burial is at Albion Township Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale, ND.
