Gene F. Collett

Gene F. Collett, 86, of Ellendale, ND was born October 9, 1922 in Ellendale. She was the daughter of Alfred and Genevieve (Kerr) Wolfe. Gene graduated from Ellendale High School in 1940 and attended the State Normal and Industrial School for two years. On May 31, 1942, Gene married Harold L. Collett at her parents home east of Ellendale. In 1944, Gene and Harold purchased their farm in Elden Township and lived there until 1965 when they moved to Ellendale to her childhood home. After their move to Ellendale, Gene began working part-time for MDU and she and Harold continued farming. In 1977 they moved into their new home on 4th Street. On October 13, 1991, Harold died. In 2004 Gene moved to Evergreen Place in Ellendale where she resided until her death April 1, 2009, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, SD. Gene enjoyed spending time with her family, working in her flower gardens, doing crossword puzzles writing poetry, traveling and evening walks. She was a member of the Adah Chapter of Eastern Star; PEO; Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale and past member of the Ellendale Public School Board. Grateful to have shared in her life are three daughters: Kay Jund, Lisbon, ND, Diana (Jerry) Haberer, Henning, MN, Mary (Robert) Schmidt, Ellendale, ND; nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, Thomas Jund. The funeral is 10:30am Monday, April 6 at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale with Pastor Paul Henschen officiating. Visitation will be 2-7pm Sunday with a prayer service at 5pm at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Burial will be at Ellendale City Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel.
