Elmer "Sonny" L. Genter

Elmer L. “Sonny” Genter, 61, of Ellendale, ND was born June 23, 1947, in Aberdeen, SD. He was the son of Theophil and Ida (Mitzel) Genter. Sonny was educated at Ellendale Public School. After his education he began working at the Ellendale Bakery. Sonny was employed there until 1985 when he stopped working due to declining health. In October 2006 Sonny entered Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale, until September 2007 when returned to his home. Sonny died May 21, 2009, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD. He enjoyed having his snowmobile, cars and pickup truck. He also enjoyed reading, coffee time, fishing and all sports especially the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. Sonny was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church of Ellendale. Grateful to have shared in his life are one sister: Mary Filbert of Ellendale, ND; one niece: Julie (Jeff) Canfield of Hartford, SD; two great-nieces: Ashley & Meagan Canfield and one great-nephew: Zander Canfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law: Gary Filbert. The memorial service is 3pm Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Christ The King Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Galen Sylvester officiating and visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
