Kirk “Klatch” Redmond, 65 of Ellendale, ND died June 3, 2016 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, SD as the result of a heart attack. Kirk was born January 21, 1951 to Harold and Barbara (McMillan) Redmond in Aberdeen, SD. He was educated and graduated from Ellendale Public School. He went on to study one year at UND-Ellendale Branch. In 1970 Kirk joined the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1976. Kirk came home where he began working with his father in the family business, Redmond Electric. After his father’s retirement, Kirk continued in the family business as a master electrician. Kirk married Elaine R. (McNeil) on June 16, 1984 at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale. They had two wonderful children, Kathleen and Logan, who made Kirk very proud. He began working for Dakota Valley Electric as an electrician where he developed a Meter Technician Program. Kirk was active and involved in many activities including the masonic lodge No. 13 A.F. & A.M. of North Dakota where he served multiple times as past Master, VFW and American Legion Herman-Schlinker Post #137. His passion was in Rendezvousing where he was a member of the Plainsmen Black Powder Club of Fargo, ND. It was in this group of friends and family he received his nickname “Klatch”. He was also a member of the Coalition of Historical Trekkers (CoHT). Kirks friends and family know he was always there with advice, a good story or a witty remark. Kirk will be remembered in the minds and hearts of his wife: Elaine Redmond of Ellendale, ND, his son: Logan Redmond, Frederick, SD; his daughter: Kathleen (Ethan) Pippitt, Lenora, KS, his mother: Barbara Redmond, Aberdeen, SD; brother: Warren (LeAnne) Redmond, Aberdeen, SD. He was preceded in death by his father Harold and one brother Bruce. A memorial service is 11am Monday at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale with Pastor Paul Henschen officiating. Visitation is at 4:30pm with a Masonic Service at 5:30pm Sunday at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. A private burial will be at a later date. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel.
