Jacquilin J. "Jackie" Maier

Jacquilin J. “Jackie” Maier 73, Ellendale, ND died September 17, 2016 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen, SD. Jackie was born June 22, 1943 to Magdalena “Mae” (Bollinger) and Jacob “Jack” Maier, Edgeley, ND. She was raised on her parents farm in Albion Township. Jackie was baptized July 18, 1943 and attended rural Albion Lutheran Church and later transferred to Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale. She was confirmed April 14, 1957 and was active at Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale and Canada giving her time and talents freely. Her faith had always been her rock. Jackie received her primary education at Albion Country School and graduated from Ellendale High School in 1961. Later, she attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND graduating with an advanced stenography degree. She returned to Ellendale and attended University of North Dakota, Ellendale Branch and received a teaching degree. Her teaching took her to Oregon then to Estevan, Canada where she taught. While teaching she also obtained her Master degree in Education from Montana State University in Bozeman, MT. Jackie returned to Ellendale where she resided until she moved to Primrose in 2014. She later moved to Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. The caring staff at Bethesda accepted Jackie for who she had become due to her struggle with dementia. Jackie’s days were always brighter with the visits of her great niece and nephews: Laura, Milo, Howard, Freddie, Will and Drew. Jackie enjoyed traveling around Canada, Europe and the United States, hunting, fishing, trap shooting and knitting. She also loved to fly and obtained her pilot license. Jackie is survived by a very special brother: Tom (Lorelei) Maier; sisters: Karol (Mark) Reddig, Sherry (Joe) Maly; brother-in-law: Bruce Holmberg; nieces and nephews: Taeja, Heidi, Amy, Amanda, Sarah, Rochelle, Jason, David and Rocky. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister: Maureen; and brother: James. A memorial service is 10am Tuesday, September 20 at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale with Pastor Paul Preus officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. There is a private burial at Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
