Palmer L. Buerkley, 91, had the best day of his life on September 22, 2016 when he went home to be with his Lord & Savior. Palmer was born January 28, 1925 to Fred and Christine Buerkley in McIntosh County South of Fredonia. Palmer completed his elementary education in LaMoure County, west of Kulm. Palmer met the love of his life, Ella Schock, daughter of John and Christina Schock and were united in marriage on December 8, 1946. At the time of their marriage Palmer was employed by Stroehl’s Service Station. In 1951 Palmer started working for the Kulm Farmers Coop Elevator as 2nd man. In the summer of 1955 Palmer bought his first almost new car, a pink, white and black 1955 Ford Victoria 2 door hardtop. In the spring of 1966 Palmer became the Manager of the Fredonia Farmers Coop Elevator. Palmer moved his family to Fredonia in the summer of 1966 and successfully managed the elevator for 21 years. Palmer retired and moved back to Kulm in June of 1987 where he lived until September 2014 when Palmer and Ella moved to the Gackle Care Center. Palmer moved to the Prince of Peace Care Center and Ella to the Evergreen Care Center in Ellendale in September of 2015. Palmer and Ella were blessed with two children Cynthia Ann born February 2, 1948 and Anthony Palmer born August 18, 1950. Palmer loved to golf and on July 31, 2004 Palmer made a hole in one at the Ashley Country Club. Palmer loved the Lord and was a Godly man to his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who knew him. Palmer was a life long member of the First Congregational Church where he was a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Teacher, Trustee and Usher. Palmer was a member of the Fredonia Fire Department and Fire Chief several times, charter member of the Fredonia Lions Club and was a member of the Kulm Country Club. Palmer and Ella were a host family to CEF 5 day clubs every summer for many years. Palmer is survived by his wife of 69 years, 9 months Ella of Ellendale, his daughter Cynthia (Jim) Campbell, Anderson, IN; Anthony of Kulm; grandchildren, Tracy (Troy) Tipton, Anderson, IN, Jessica (Ryon) Reasen, Carmel, IN, Brandon Campbell and friend Heather Williams, Fleming Island, FL; Summer (Charles) Tweet, Mandan, Sky (Jared) Nitschke, Jud, Shannon (Landon) Krueger, Fredonia, Kacy (Travis) Vetter, Wishek; brother Freddie (Sophia) Buerkley, Kulm; sisters: Vivian Heidinger Haffner, Kulm, Marilyn Weiler, Detroit Lakes, MN and 16 great grandchildren. A memorial service is 11am Saturday, October 8 at the First Congregational Church in Kulm. A family service is 8pm Friday, October 7 at First Congregational Church, Kulm.
