Lloyd Henry Martin

Lloyd Henry Martin, 83, of Forbes, ND died October 15th at his home. Lloyd was born November 18, 1932 to Henry and Helen (Vossler) Martin at the farm, west of Forbes, ND near the county line. He was educated and attended rural school in Grand Valley Township and attended high school in Forbes. Lloyd was confirmed at the Evangelical Church in Forbes. In 1953, he entered the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1955. On June 19th, 1955 Lloyd married the love of his life, Shirley Mock, at the Evangelical Church. They resided in Forbes for two years before purchasing the Johnny Martin Farm. While farming, Lloyd worked for Erwin Martin Construction. In 1982, Lloyd sold his farm to his son. After retirement, Lloyd purchased and operated a hay moving business and entered into a partnership with Gus Fredericks. After selling his hay moving business, Lloyd worked various jobs such as assisting Bernie Rall in the shop, Dennis Pahl with hay moving, Christ Gross with hay grinding, and Craig Martin Construction. Lloyd loved to give his grandchildren and great-grandchildren $1 every time he saw them. Lloyd was a member of the Evangelical Church and the Nicholson-Gerdon Post #277. He served on the following boards: school, township, and Forbes City. Lloyd is survived by his children: Jacklyn (Kevin) Brokaw, Forbes, ND, Timothy (Darla) Martin, Forbes, ND, Deann (Scott) Mangin, Lisbon, ND; grandchildren: Ryan, Amber, Dylan, Tanner, Meg, Tyler, Kelly, Emily and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Kenny and Dale, and one great-grandchild: Etta Mae. A memorial service will be 10:30am Saturday, October 22 at Forbes Legion Hall with Pastor Paul Henschen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in Forbes.
