Mary Webster, 82 of Ellendale, ND passed away March 21, 2017 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, SD. The daughter of Frank and Theresa (Schwengler) Feist, Mary was born on September 8, 1934 at LaMoure, ND. Mary was united in marriage at the age of 16 to Earl Webster on November 20, 1950 at St. Helena’s Catholic Church in Ellendale. The couple was blessed with four children: Alan, Kathy, Nancy and Patricia. In Mary’s younger years, about the age of 12, she was a caregiver to two elderly disabled neighbors. She enjoyed her time substitute teaching in an old country school when needed. Mary was known for her hard work ethic at a young age. She could work like a man and helped her dad shovel coal out of railroad cars. Some of Mary’s outdoor activities included painting the buildings, fences and grain bins, mowing the lawn, raising chickens to butcher and sell, and milking the cows. Mary used the money she earned to buy groceries and clothes for the family. Mary welcomed everyone to the Webster household; there was an endless pot of coffee and no one ever left their house hungry. After her marriage, Mary was employed at Ellendale Memorial Hospital in the dietary department as a cook and later as a supervisor for 39 years from 1952 until 1991. In December of 1993, Mary started working at Prince of Peace Care Center in the dietary department until her retirement in December of 2007. Mary was a member of the Ellendale VFW Auxiliary for 9 years. She was also a member of St. Helena’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. Mary is survived by her children: son Alan (Kim) Webster, Custer, SD; daughter Kathy (Kevin) Cantwell, Aberdeen, SD; daughter Nancy (Wayne) Johnson, Aberdeen, SD; and daughter Patricia (Mike) Mortenson, Aberdeen, SD. Mary is also missed by her grandchildren; Seth (Teresa) Webster, Gregory, SD; Jared (Hallie) Webster, Custer, SD; Nathen (Stephanie Hynes) Cantwell, St. Paul, MN; Eric (Amanda) Cantwell, Grand Forks, ND; Jenny (Ryan Dallmann) Johnson, Aberdeen, SD; Nick (Nikki) Johnson, Aberdeen, SD; Derek (Megan) Johnson, Harrisburg, SD; Mitchell Johnson, Aberdeen, SD; and Madison (Braedon Sutton) Mortenson, Cole and Laramie Mortenson, Aberdeen, SD. Mary is also survived by her great-grandchildren; Maddie, Jackson, and Jhett Eklund and Slade Webster; Brielle Webster; Mason and Reagan Cantwell; and Teagan Gillis and Joey Dallmann. Mary is survived by her two sisters: Margie (Harold) Schlepp, Waseca, MN and Lisa (Robert) Marinack, Allenville, WI; plus several cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband plus her sisters: Marietta Feist and Theresa Harty and brothers Sam Feist, Kash Feist, Eugene Feist, Vallie Feist, Joe Feist and grandson Lucas Earl Johnson who died August 27, 2001. Funeral services for Earl & Mary Webster will be 10am Saturday, March 25 at St. Helena’s Catholic Church, Ellendale with Father Jason Asselin, celebrant. A Rosary and prayer service will be 7pm at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Friday. Visitation is 2-8pm Friday at Hoven Funeral Chapel and continuing one hour prior to church services Saturday.
