Norma Knoepfle, 86 of Ellendale, ND died May 4, 2017 at her home. Norma was born October 14, 1930 to Robert and Lydia (Schutz) Kurle at Eureka, SD where she attended school and graduated in 1948. After graduation she worked at the Milwaukee depot in Aberdeen, SD until she married Walter “Pete” Knoepfle in Igloo, SD on February 14, 1952. They lived in Igloo until 1965 until Pete was transferred to Hanover, IL. During that time, Norma worked as a waitress and grocery store clerk. Pete died in August 1972. Norma continued living in Hanover until 1974 when she moved to Ellendale to be closer to family. She worked part time at the Coast-to-Coast store and the Zig-Zag Bowl and Grill until September 1975 when she began working for Don Meidinger at Mobile Concrete and Ellendale Lumber, later working for Doug Muckey as secretary for Ellendale Concrete and Muckey Construction. Norma retired in October 1992 and began helping her daughter at Dawn’s Daycare where she enjoyed helping with the children. Norma was a member of the Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale and the Ellendale Women’s Bowling Association and the VFW Auxiliary in Ellendale. Her hobbies included bowling, bingo, playing cards, gambling, camping and traveling to visit children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Norma is survived by her two sons: Kevin (Peggy) Knoepfle of Belvidere, IL, Keith Knoepfle (and friend Peggy Speer) of Hanover, IL; two daughters: Cheryl (Maury) Allen of Hazel Green, WI, Dawn (Carey) Wald of Ellendale, ND; seven grandchildren: Rusty (Janae) Guay of Cedar Falls, IA, Michelle (Vince) Carini of Franklin, WI, Casey (Nicole) Knoepfle of Poplar Grove, IL, Corey (Mary) Knoepfle of Aurora, IL, Nathan (Sara) Knoepfle of Loves Park, IL, Michael Knoepfle of Rockford, IL, Heather (LeRoy) Petersen of Sterling, IL; ten great-grandchildren; brother: Royal (Nancy) Kurle of LaMoure, ND; sisters: LuElla Pleinis of Eureka, SD, Betty (Kenneth) Mueller of Rapid City, SD; sister-in-law: Lena Schweigerdt of Lodi, CA and many nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Bernice Schock and Lucille Ketterling. The funeral service is 10:30am Saturday, May 13 at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale with Pastor Galen Sylvester officiating. Visitation is 3-8pm Friday with a prayer service at 7pm Friday at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Visitation continues one hour prior to church services. Burial is at Euerka City Cemetery, Eureka, SD. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel.
