Elmer W. Huber

Elmer Walter Huber, 81 of Ellendale, ND was the son of Reinhold and Pauline (Martell) Huber. Elmer was born April 23, 1928, on the family farm west of Zeeland, ND. He grew up on the farm and attended Selz School. Elmer was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Zeeland. As a young man Elmer enjoyed horses and riding with his father and also raising cattle. While Elmer's brother Edwin went into the service he took care of the family farm and latter joined the Wishek Army National Guard Service Battery 188th Field Artillery Unit. He received training at Fort Rucker, AL. He was honorably discharged from the National Guard on April 7, 1953. Elmer worked for Teigen Construction in Aberdeen, SD and also for the Edgeley Elevator, GTA Feed Plant, Edgeley, for various farmers in both ND and SD, Dickey County Highway Department; the Ellendale Senior Center and presently was janitor at the US Post Office in Ellendale. Elmer married Ardith Bartels Uecker on June 5, 1970, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Ellendale. Elmer enjoyed fishing, fixing things up with his friend Fran, visiting and drinking coffee with friends, mowing lawns and volunteering for Kedish House Domestic Violence Program. Elmer was active in Alcoholic Anonymous and recently received his 30 year pin for sobriety which he was very proud of. He was a member of the American Legion Herman-Schlinker Post #137 of Ellendale. Elmer recently began radiation treatment for cancer and was hospitalized on September 16th at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen, SD and passed away suddenly on September 20, 2009, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital. Survivors include: Ardith Huber, Ellendale; step-children: Rodney (Carol) Uecker, Langdon, ND; Peggy (Michael) Beauvais, Mascoutah, IL and Sharron Brady of Ellendale; five grandchildren: Heidi Uecker, Moorhead, MN, Shannon (Kristen) Uecker, Fargo, ND, Haylee (James) Mercado, Columbia, SC, Amie (Michael) Flores, Fayetteville, NC, Kelly Brady, Ellendale, ND; five great grandchildren; one sister: Esther Brandner, Bismarck, ND and 17 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and sister-in-law and one sister and two brothers-in-law. Funeral: 2pm Thursday with Pastors Galen Sylvester and Carl Hedman officiating. Visitation: 3-8pm Wednesday and prayer service at 7pm. All services at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale, ND. Visitation also one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial: 10am cst Friday at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan with Pastor Dennis Huenfeld officiating.
