Osborn “Ossie” Ost, 90, Ellendale, died Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, SD. Ossie was born June 15, 1927 in Fredonia, N.D., the son of Alfred and Olga (Kosanke) Ost. He attended a country school while helping out on the family farm. Ossie served in the Korean War from 1949 to 1952 and was stationed in Japan. He also served in the ND National Guard for 7 years. After returning from the war Ossie married Gladys Herrmann in Kulm, ND on December 28, 1952. They lived in Wahpeton while he attended the State School of Science and graduated with a 2-year degree in the Auto Body Trade. He followed his schooling with many different careers and locations. He was a heavy equipment operator in his early years, owned and operated 2 gas stations and a concrete business, was a National Guard recruiter and policeman. They lived in Ashley and Wishek and then moved to Ellendale in 1966. Ossie was a member of the Presbyterian United Methodist Church in Ellendale, lifelong member of the American Legion and a supporter of Ellendale Legion Baseball. He enjoyed taking care of his yard, home, and cars. He was an avid Bingo player and loved playing horseshoes. Ossie is survived by his children; Tim (Nancy) Valley City, ND; Tamara Thomas, Aberdeen, SD; Todd (Geneva) Manhattan, KS; Teresa (Scott) Campbell, Frederick, SD; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, mother and father, and one grandchild Timothy Ost. The funeral is 11am Saturday, August 5 at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale with Pastor Paul Henschen officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church.
