Naida Marie Brandenburger

Naida Marie (Talley) Brandenburger, 76 of Ellendale, ND was born September 4, 1933, in Childress County, TX. She was the daughter of Jimmie Talley and Frances Alice Gardner. Naida went to school in a number of places including Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. Upon her graduation from the Scott City High School in Scott City, KS, she worked one summer as a nurses aid. She then became a telephone operator with the Scott City Exchange. While employed there, she met and married Vernard Brandenburger on June 15, 1957. After residing in several places, they moved to the Forbes, ND area and Naida took on the role of wife and mother on the family farm. She was a hard worker. Along with the day to day work that a wife and mother needs to do, Naida also sewed, gardened, helped with farm work and cooked all the meals for her family of seven children. In 1991 Naida moved to Forbes and worked at the Ellendale Senior Center in Ellendale, ND as head cook. Because of the hard winter driving, eventually she moved to Ellendale and continued working at the senior center until her retirement in 2007. More than anything else, Naida enjoyed her family. She loved to have the grandchildren around and provided lots of toys, books and movies for them. When they were older, she liked to take the grandchildren to movies. She never missed birthdays and would also send cards on many other occasions. She enjoyed reading, painting and collecting cats and roosters. Naida was active with the Farmers Union and worked with the youth for many years. She served on the Forbes Election Board and participated in the Big Sister/Little Sister program. Naida is survived by Ivy Lunbery of Alliance, NE and her children, Cody (Katie), and Tyler; Kyle (Margie) of Bristol, VA and his children, Tara (Shawn) [Sarah and David] and Max; Sheila (James) Brauer of Ellendale, ND and their children, Cameron, Heather (Ross) and Shannon; Tava (Curtis) Ullmayer of Clearwater, FL; Melba (Ron) Richards of Seminole, TX and their children, Gina, Ryan, Joanna and Levi; Mancel (Lori) of Forbes, ND and their children, Gus and Alex; Eva (Craig) Bishop of Waynesville, NC and their children, Gavin and Molly; and Naida’s cats, Bo and Puff. Naida Marie (Talley) Brandenburger died Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, SD after battling cancer. The funeral is 2pm Monday with Pastor Tim Brown officiating. Visitation will be 2-7pm and a prayer service at 6pm Sunday. All services will be held at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale, ND. Burial is at Ellendale City Cemetery.
