Frances Marie Thomsen

Frances Thomsen, 74, of Oakes, ND formerly of Ellendale, ND, was born March 17, 1935, in Fredonia, ND. She was the daughter of Jennings and Emma (Kosanke) Dok. Frances married Elden Thomsen on October 10, 1957, at the American Lutheran Church in Kulm, ND. Frances was a busy homemaker and mother. She had many interests such as quilting, crocheting, and putting puzzles together. She generously shared precious handmade gifts with her grandchildren in the form of quilts and each of her children are proud recipients of her handmade afghans. Frances died of natural causes October 5, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society of Oakes, Oakes, ND. Frances was an active member of the American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary. Her love for the cause motivated her to become an outstanding Red Poppy donation collector. She enjoyed socializing with the Roundtable coffee group that met almost daily to keep up with current events. Frances was truly blessed with Susan Jacobs, Aberdeen, SD, a close family friend, who was always there for her. Other close friends are Marlene Rempher, Clara Niederbaumer, Pat Kendal and Jean Hill. There were two children that mom adored babysitting, Amanda and Adam Heine. As they grew up they thought of Frances like their own grandma. Frances is survived by her children and grandchildren: Sheila (Stanley) Rattei, Ashley, ND, Jeffery Thomsen, Auburn, WA, Gail Merritts, Mililani, HI, Todd Thomsen, Ellendale, ND, Barbara Thomsen, Oakes, ND, Roger Thomsen, Aberdeen, SD. Frances has two grandchildren Andrew and Derek Merritts. Andrew married Tasha Schutz and they are expecting Frances’s first great grandchild. Frances was preceded in death by her infant son Rodney Thomsen, brother James Dok, former spouse Elden Thomsen and parents Emma and Jennings Dok. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Salvation Army, in Frances’ name. This was one of Frances’ favorite charities. Visitation: 2-6pm Friday at Hoven Funeral Chapel. Funeral Service: 2pm Saturday and visitation one hour prior to the service at Christ The King Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Galen Sylvester officiating.
