Betty Jane Hill

Betty Jane “BJ” (Muske) Gehring-Hill 87, of Ellendale, ND died November 16, 2017 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen, SD. She was born February 16, 1930 in Aberdeen. She was the daughter of Ernest A. and Elsie (Schmidt) Muske. BJ was raised in Ellendale and graduated from Ellendale High School in 1947. She also attended Fargo Business School. On December 10, 1948 BJ married Arthur Rueben Gehring in Ellendale. After their marriage, BJ began work at the Dickey County ASCS (USDA) office retiring after 32 years. BJ and Arthur enjoyed dancing, playing golf and spending time with family. Arthur R. Gehring died April 21, 1983. On July 3, 1987 BJ married Raymond Charles Hill in Ellendale. They spent their winters in Mission, TX and in Ellendale during summer and fall. Raymond died August 11, 2003. BJ met Gary Tiegs in 2004 through church functions. They resided together in Ellendale with their dog, Katie. BJ was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Senior Center Board, NDASCOE, RASCOE, NARFE, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and volunteering at the Senior Center. She enjoyed bible study at church, puzzles, reading, knitting and embroidering. She also enjoyed spending time at the senior center, library and being with her grandchildren. Grateful to have shared in her life are her son: David Gehring (special friend Verna), Casper, WY; daughter: Peggy Gayman (special friend Scot), Ellendale, ND; five grandchildren: Troy (Heather) Gehring of CO, Ryan Gehring of CO, Darcy (Waylon) Henningsen, Fullerton, ND; Cassy (Troy) Olson, Ellendale, ND; Kurtis Gayman, Ellendale, ND; 9 great-grandchildren: Coren and Austin Gehring, Courtney, Brooke, Devin and Braylee Olson, Carson, Colton and Carter Henningsen; two step grandchildren: Kayce Olson, Lane Olson; step great-great granddaughter: Rory Olson; special friend: Gary Tiegs, Ellendale, ND; step children: Kathleen Hill, Donald Hill; two sisters-in-law: Marian Muske of MI, and Joyce (Narin) Hermansen, Aberdeen, SD. BJ was preceded in death by both husbands, parents, brother: Kenneth; sister: LoLita Johnson and infant son. The funeral will be 10:30am Monday, November 20 at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Paul Preus officiating. Visitation will be Sunday 2-6pm and continues one hour prior to services at the church. Burial is at Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
