Vivian Raisanen

January 4, 1925 — February 9, 2018

Vivian (Anderson) Raisanen, 93 of Aberdeen, SD formerly of Frederick, SD was received into the arms of the Lord on February 9, 2018 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab after an extended stay. There will be a private memorial service and graveside burial later this spring. Blessed be her memory. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale, ND.Vivian Frederika (Anderson) Raisanen was born January 4, 1925 to William and Rauha (Raasio) Anderson in rural Savo Township, Brown County, SD. She was the oldest of 6 children. She grew up speaking Finnish in the home and learned English while attending school. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1943. She was employed in Aberdeen at International Harvestor for a short time before marrying Howard Raisanen at Frederick on February 22, 1947. She was a homemaker and farm wife for the rest of he life. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and handwork of all kinds. She was a member of Savo Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and attended Sr. Citizens in Frederick for many years. After Howard passed away in December of 1973 she remained on the farm with her son, Calvin. In 2014 Vivian moved to Aberdeen Health and Rehab Facility where she resided until she passed away on February 9, 2018. She made a trip to Finland with her sister Vi Holderness in 1985 to visit their ancestors and relatives of Anderson and Raisanen families. Two children were born to the union, Ranae Jo Raisanen (Ron Larsen) of Lake Preston, SD, Calvin Howard Raisanen of Frederick, SD. Vivian is survived by three grandchildren: Ray (Rosanna) Larsen of Lake Preston, SD, Roxanne Joy (Peter) Larsen of St. Paul, MN, Russell (Rusty) Larsen of Redfield, SD; sister: Velma (Herman) Fettig of Minot, ND; sister-in-law: Delores Anderson of Aberdeen, SD and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Arnold, Archie and Allen; and sister Violet. She was a caring mother and remained a family supporter till her death. She will be buried by her husband Howard with a private family memorial service.
