Darrell L. Filbert

Darrell LeRoy Filbert, 68, of Forbes, ND formerly of Ellendale, ND was born July 31, 1941. He was the son of Clair and Isabelle (Brown) Filbert of Ellendale. He graduated from Ellendale High School in 1959 and entered the United States Navy. Darrell married Jean Zematis and this marriage later ended. He returned to Ellendale and worked at UBC. On August 15, 1970, Darrell married Barbara Dyke. They later moved to Oakes, ND where he was employed with Land O’ Lakes. In 1987 they returned to Ellendale where Darrell was employed with Filbert Construction until his retirement. Darrell enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, playing cards, fishing and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Darrell died January 11, 2010, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, SD. He leaves three sons: Dale (Ute) Filbert, Lehigh Acres, FL, Bill Filbert, West Fargo, ND, Clair Filbert, Wahpeton, ND; two daughters: Amanda (Ross) Merkel, Ellendale, ND, Laurie (Ryan) Buntrock, Columbia, SD; supportive friend: Barbara Loehrer; three brothers: Larry Filbert, Wahpeton, ND, Duane (Mary) Filbert, Ellendale, ND, Dwight (Betty) Filbert, Ellendale, ND; one sister-in-law: Mary Filbert, Ellendale, ND; four grandchildren: Jessica, Thomas, Cody and Carli; two step-grandchildren: Shamee and Shania; and one great-grandchild. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Jean; two brothers: Dale and Gary Filbert. Darrell will be missed by all whose lives he touched. A memorial service will be 10:30 A.M. on Saturday January 16th at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale with Pastor Kerry Ascher officiating. Visitation is 9:30am to time of service at the funeral home.
