Marie M. Vasvick

Marie M. Vasvick, 80, Ellendale, ND was born March 19, 1930, on a farm in Valley Township near Monango, ND. She was the daughter of Jacob and Theresa (Raugutt) Wiederrich. Marie attended Valley Township School. On May 10, 1947, Marie married Leonard Vasvick in Ellendale. After their marriage they lived in Montana for a short time before returning to North Dakota. In 1949, they built and operated Len’s Café in Monango. In the fall of 1950, they moved the café building to their farm in Van Meter Township where they remodeled and made it their home. Marie and Leonard farmed and raised livestock until their retirement. In 1974, they moved into Ellendale. Marie continued helping at the farm and during winter months she helped at several Ellendale businesses. Marie was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Ellendale, was active in the WELCA and Ladies American Legion Auxillary. Marie enjoyed crocheting, sewing, playing cards, reading, crossword puzzles, playing board games with grandchildren, baking, cooking, visiting, music and raising flowers and plants. Marie died June 15, 2010, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, SD. Survivors include her husband: Leonard Vasvick, Ellendale; son: Larry (Karen) Vasvick, Ellendale; daughters: Kathy (Larry) Exner, LaMoure, ND, Luanne (Steve) Slykerman, LaMoure, ND; grandchildren: Erin (Gary) Lukban, Tracy, CA, Ricki (Brandon) Rekow, Mooresville, NC, Wade and Kyle Vasvick both of Ellendale, Kenton (Roxy) Exner, Cologne, MN, Marc (Jennifer) Exner, Mashpee, MA, Staci (Léo) Kenny, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Amanda Slykerman, Minnewaukan, ND, Carly (Justin) Prochnow, Oakes, ND, Lee Slykerman, LaMoure, ND; great-grandchildren: Noah and Verena Lukban and Grace Marie Exner; sister: Edna Ernst, Aberdeen, SD; step-grandchildren: Patty (Jae) Hallett, Meridian, ID, Will Hart, Boise, ID; step-great grandchildren: Heather and Josh Hallett. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, four sisters, granddaughter: Jana Marie Exner and step-daughter: Karann Hart. The funeral is 2pm Friday at Christ The King Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Galen Sylvester officiating. Visitation will be 4-8pm Thursday with a prayer service at 7pm at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Burial will be at Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel.
