Kenneth “Kenny” Edward Kosel, 72 of Ellendale, ND died November 26, 2010, at his home in rural Ellendale. NOTICE: Due to extenuating circumstances, services for Kenny have been postponed. They are as follows: Visitation- 2 to 8pm Sunday, December 5, with a prayer service at 7pm at Hoven Funeral Chapel. Funeral - 10:30am Monday, December 6, at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Tyson Labuhn officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel. Kenneth "Kenny" Edward Kosel, 72 of Ellendale, ND, was born December 25, 1937, in Ellendale, ND. He was the son of Edward and Emilia (Pfeifle) Kosel. Kenny was baptized on May 1, 1938 by Rev. Vomhoff and Confirmed October 28, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale. Kenny was educated at Country School. As a young man, Kenny began working for Wendell and Dorothy Olson on their farm. In 1957, Kenny entered the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1959. He then began working for Doug Houghton at Houghton's Meat Market in Ellendale. On November 13, 1959, Kenny married Betty Heintzman in Redfield, SD. From 1967 to 1970, Kenny worked at the Long Lake Meat Market in Long Lake, SD. In 1970, Kenny began working as a meat cutter for Ulmer's Jack & Jill in Ellendale. On March 22, 1975, while on vacation from Jack & Jill, Kenny graduated from Western College of Auctioneering in Billings, MT. He continued to work for Jack & Jill until 1985 when he purchased Houghton's Meat Market in Ellendale, which he operated until March 30, 1996. After the closing of the Meat Market, Kenny began working at Char's Super Valu in Ellendale, where he received numerous awards for outstanding quality in the meat department, until 2000. Kenny then continued auctioneering and ranching until the time of his death on November 26, 2010 at his home in rural Ellendale. Kenny enjoyed auctioneering, baling hay, working on the farm, spending time with his family and grandchildren, antiques, singing and listening to music (especially Gene Autry), story telling and riding horse. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale and served as a trustee for 3 years. He was a member of the Forbes American Legion and board member of Whitestone Battlefield Association and the Ellendale O.P.E.R.A. Kenny is survived by his wife of 51 years: Betty, Ellendale, ND; two sons: Todd (Loni) Kosel, Edgeley, ND, Russell (Merle) Kosel, Ellendale, ND; two daughters: Carmen (Mike) Divine, Mesa, AZ, Holly (Chris) Carr, Redfield, SD; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two brothers: Don (Claudette) Kosel, Ashley, ND, Ron (Maxine) Kosel, Ellendale, ND; four sisters: Shirley Strand, Linton, ND, Bernice (Norman) Kruckenberg, Enumclaw, WA, Evelyn (Iver) Oster, Enumclaw, WA, Carol Kosel, Ellendale, ND; three sisters-in-law: Kathy Kosel, Ellendale, ND, Lucy (Dave) Braach, Missoula, MT, Sandy (Dennis) Jacobson, Oakes, ND; one brother in law: Brian (Holly) Salo, Montpelier, ND; 29 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, one brother: Howard Kosel, one sister: Debra Kosel, one nephew: Kent Kruckenberg, three brothers-in-law: Edward Strand, Herman Kuebler, Art Tabbert and one sister-in-law: Julia Tabbert.
