Alice M. Rost 84 of Ellendale, ND died June 8, 2020 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab, Aberdeen, SD. A memorial service is 2pm Friday, June 12 at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Paul Preus officiating. Visitaiton will be one hour prior to the church service. Burial is at Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Alice Martha Rost was born March 25, 1936 to John and Christina (Bollinger) Rost in Kulm, ND. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. Alice attended country school near Kulm and after the Rost family moved to Ellendale in 1951 she attended Ellendale Public School. Alice peacefully passed away June 8, 2020 at the Aberdeen Health & Rehab Center, Aberdeen, SD. Alice was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was an original member of the volunteer Ellendale Ambulance and served on the City Council. Alice started working at the Ellendale Memorial Hospital as a nurses aide then after a few years moved to Los Angeles where she worked in a cosmetic factory and then on an electronic factory assembly line for almost a year. In mid July 1965 she returned to Ellendale to resume her employment as the hospital. Her duties took a change eight years later when she became what some of Memorial’s staff now call “North Dakota’s only known woman hospital maintenance engineer”. After the hospital closed in 1993, she went to work at the Coast to Coast hardware store doing repairs including bicycle and lawn mower and fixing windows until her retirement in 1998. Alice enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. Alice is survived by five nephews and one niece: Glenn (Marcia) Rost, Parker River, ND, Dennis (Shirley) Rost, Hazen, ND, Patty (Frank) Sieg, Anamoose, ND, Arlyn (Karen) Fredrick, Mandan, ND, Jerome Fredrick, Huson, MT, Ned (Kay) Fredrick, Westport, SD; one sister-in-law Lillian Rost, Anamoose, ND; 13 great nieces & nephews; 21 great-great nieces & nephews and good friend Cindy Urbaniak. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Art and Ervin and two sisters Hertha and Nettie, and brother-in-law Edwin Fredrick.
