Emmit L. Curtis, 84 of Ellendale, ND died Thursday, March 5, 2020 at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, ND. A community memorial service for Emmit is 10:30am Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Church of the Nazarene, Ellendale with Pastor Kelly Riggan officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Aurdal Cemetery, rural Forbes, ND. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Emmit Leroy Curtis was born on June 30, 1935 to Leroy and Cora Curtis in the town of Clear Lake, Washington. Emmit served in the US Air Force from 1956 – 1960 as an Airman First Class and an Electronics Instructor. While in the service he married his sweetheart Fay Smith on June 8th, 1959. While living on the Airforce Base in Biloxi, MS their firstborn daughter Linda was born. They then moved to Oregon in September of 1960 where he enrolled in Multnomah School of the Bible to become a pastor. They welcomed their second daughter Sherry. Emmit became an electronic instructor at Multnomah School of Electronics for the next 7 years and while teaching they welcomed their 3rd daughter Tia. He became a pastor with Village Missions in 1967. His first church was in California and they were there for one year. They then pastored various churches in Oregon from 1968 to 1981, while in Oregon they welcomed their 4th and 5thdaughters Stephanie and Sheena. In 1981 they moved to Washington and then moved to various states: Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota and decided to retire in 2001 in Ellendale, ND where they now reside. After retirement he worked for MDU as a meter reader and then worked at Whitestone as a grounds keeper which he truly enjoyed and was passionate about the place and people he met. He was an avid woodworker for his entire life. Passionate about God and sharing the Lord Jesus with everyone he met. He was passionate about his family. He had 12 grandchildren (6 boys, 6 girls), 4 great-grandchildren (3 girls, 1 boy) with a 5th great-granddaughter on the way. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and he was loved deeply and will be greatly missed. See you in heaven.
