Irene “Gross” Janke, (Eirene) 84 of Ellendale, ND died September 17 at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale. She was born January 14, 1934 to Kasper and Clara (Goldade) Gross in Kintyre, ND. She attended school in Kintyre and completed 8th grade in Lehr, ND. After 8th grade, Irene moved to Jamestown and on November 30, 1956 she married Ervin Janke and five children were born. Irene and children have lived in many cities and states within ND/SD but always making her home in ND. She worked for the Golden Rule formally known as the Evergreen Place in Ellendale until her retirement in 1998. She delighted in visiting with her friends, playing cards, watching the birds, embroidering, crochet, and especially assembling puzzles along with giving the finished product to others. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church of Ellendale, ND. Survivors include daughter: Cindy (David) Albright and children, Michael and Heather (LeRoy) Petersen of East Moine, IL; sons: Ronald and children, Eric, Nicole Altman, and Anthony of Aberdeen, SD; Jimmy and children Amanda (Ryan), Amber (Kelly) Azure, and Justin (Abbey) of Ellendale, ND; Jeff (Michelle) and children, Jenna and Luke of McHenry, SD; Jason Ziegenhagel of Rogers, MN and Jeff Ziegenhagel of Circle Pines, MN; great grandchildren: Rebecca Foster and Emerald Terrintine, Zackary and Dylan Schreiner, Jace and Dakota Petersen; Brooklyn Altman; Colton Rall, Ayden Azure, Kennna and Abel Janke; Kane and Bristol Ziegenhagel; three siblings: Joseph of El Cerrito, CA; Valentine (Delores) of DeSmet, SD; and Eugene (Donna) of Fargo, ND. She is preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Michael, Peter, Andrew, Pius, and Clarence; four sisters: Agatha, Eugenia, Isabel, and Marcella; infant son and daughter: Nancy Ziegenhagel.A memorial service is 11am Saturday, September 22 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Justin Brotzel officiating.
