James Allen Mattson, 75 of Corsicana, TX died unexpectedly on January 2, 2024 at his residence.
James was born October 13, 1948 to Harley and Gerry Mattson in Bemidji, MN. He was the eldest of seven children. As the oldest, Jim enjoyed organizing neighborhood softball games and teaching his sisters to swim and ride bikes. As an adult, Jim had a passion for motorcycle trips, fishing and hunting. Jim served in the army during the Vietnam War as a medical orderly. Jim was honorably discharged from the US Army. He returned home and attended school to become an electrician.
Jim had one son Jamie, born on March 1, 1978, from his marriage to Kathy Ernst. Jim’s second wife, Sheila (Duke), died from cancer on August 19, 2002.
Survivors include: Jamie Mattson and his wife Jessica, as well as their children Gavin, Grayson, Liam, and Aliyah; his sisters Joyce Ulrich, Jennifer (Dan) Streifel, and Jean Mattson; his brother Joel (Lisa) Mattson.
Preceding Jim in death were his father Harley Mattson; brother John Mattson; sister Jacqui Miller, great-nephew Kross Mattson; and great-niece Regina Fiferlick. Jim’s mother Geraldine Mattson died three months after him.

A memorial service for James and his mother Gerry will be 2pm Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Erik Weber officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. The service for James will be live streamed at hovenfuneralchapel.com on Gerry Mattson’s obituary page. A reception will follow at the church. Burial is at Fargo National Cemetery, Fargo, ND. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
