John H. Himanga

John H. Himanga, 89 of Frederick, SD died April 2, 2018 at Manor Care, Aberdeen, SD. He was born October 2, 1928 to Matthew and Fannie M. (Tuohimaa) Himanga in Greenfield Township. He was raised ten miles east of Frederick and educated at Greenfield Township rural school. After his education, John farmed with his dad and brothers. On June 12, 1966 John married Delores Rexinger in Aberdeen. After their marriage, they purchased their own farm west of the home place. There they farmed and raised their family. John retired in the early 1990’s and continued working other odd jobs including the grain elevator, drove school bus, and was a flagman for the state highway department. John enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, especially fishing and playing with the grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Ellendale, ND; Greenfield Township Board and Frederick Elevator Board both in Brown County, SD. Survivors include his wife Delores Himanga, Frederick, SD; his children: Daniel (Joyce) Himanga, Ipswich, SD; Wendy (Terry) Frohling, Hecla, SD; Kristy Himanga, Fargo, ND; Bruce Himanga and Lisa, Frederick, SD; Alan (Jackie) Himanga, Frederick, SD and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters. A memorial service will be held 1:30pm Tuesday, April 10 at First Baptist Church, Ellendale, ND with Pastor Glenn Raynor officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at a later date at South Savo Lutheran Cemetery, rural Frederick. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
