Marvin Grueneich, of Ellendale, ND passed away at the age of 92 on September 22, 2023 at Prairie Heights Healthcare in Aberdeen, SD. Marvin, the son of Wilhelm and Anna (Hein) Grueneich was born May 15, 1931 on the family farm in Keystone Township, Monango, ND. Marvin attended school in Monango and held various jobs before he began farming. Marvin met the love of his life at Tacoma Park in Aberdeen and he was united in marriage to Joan Gibson on February 9, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen. Their union was blessed with two children, Russell & Tari. The family made their home on the family farm near Ellendale. Marvin was a member of St. Helena’s Catholic Church in Ellendale where he was a Knights of Columbus member. Marvin served on Elden Township Board, Maple Valley Farmers Elevator Board and was a member of the Ellendale Jaycees. Farming was Marvin’s lifetime passion. He loved the land, being outdoors and he could weld or fix anything put before him. In his free time, Marvin bowled for many years on a league in Ellendale, followed his grandchildren’s activities and enjoyed watching Pro basketball and football. He had a great sense of humor and could be found joking and teasing often. Blessed to have shared in Marvin’s life are his children, Russell (Joyce) Grueneich, Ellendale, ND and Tari Elsperger, Aberdeen, SD; seven grandchildren: Justin Grueneich, Jami (Josh) Svor, Jarami VanWagner, Lindsay (Mike) Oleson, Joesph Elsperger, Libbi (Alex) Schuett and Jordan Elsperger; great grand-children: Carson and Carter Svor, Destiny and Trinity Brick, Connor VanWagner, Brinley and Noah Merkel, Zander, Ember, Juniper and Wilder Schuett. Marvin is preceded in death by his wife, Joan, his parents, great-grandson, Benjamin VanWagner; brothers: Albert, Willie and Clarence Grueneich, and sisters: Martha Bartel, Esther Iverson and Lillian Richter. Visitation is 4-6:30pm Wednesday, September 27 at Hoven Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is 1pm Thursday, September 28 at St. Helena’s Catholic Church, with Father Patrick Parks officiating. Burial is at St. Helena’s Catholic Cemetery. Marvin’s service will be live streamed at hovenfuneralchapel.com on his obituary page. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
Visitation is 4-6:30pm Wednesday, September 27 at Hoven Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is 1pm Thursday, September 28 at St. Helena’s Catholic Church, with Father Patrick Parks officiating.
