Maxine Marvick

Maxine Marvick (age 96), a former longtime resident of Ellendale, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2019 in Loveland, Colorado after a short illness of pneumonia. Maxine, and her husband Al “Buster” Marvick lived in Ellendale up until 1970 when they moved to Grand Forks, and then later retired to Loveland, Colorado in 1987. Maxine Marvick graduated from the North Dakota Teachers College and was the long-time kindergarten teacher in Ellendale, and they also operated their electrical business and appliance sales store in Ellendale. Al Marvick died in Colorado in 1996 and Maxine remained and lived in Loveland, CO continuously ever since. She is survived by their two sons; Duane and Sharon Marvick of Flower Mound (Dallas), Texas and their son Scott and daughter Laura and their families, and Bruce and Lisa Marvick of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Golden, Colorado. Maxine Marvick was born at the family farm in Glover, ND in 1923 and was the oldest of 9 children. She taught in a local one-room schoolhouse in the area and shared many loved stories of growing up in rural North Dakota. She has two remaining surviving sisters, Carmen Heyd of Pierre, SD and Shirley Worrell of LaMoure, ND and many remaining family relatives. She was active in Loveland in the Ladies Elks Club and other organizations and had many friends there. She moved into the Sugar Valley Estates Retirement Community in 2016 and lived an active life there until recently moving to the Genesis Golden Peaks Center in Ft. Collins, CO where she remained healthy and active up until her recent passing just after Thanksgiving. A highlight of Maxine was in coming back to Ellendale with her sons and family for the all-school reunions, and she was always amazed and grateful to hear from all of her former kindergarten students in Ellendale. Ellendale was always her home town, and she will be home to rest here eternally. Due to Covid-19 a private burial service was held at Ellendale City Cemetery, Ellendale, ND.
