Roy Edward Miller (80) was born in Ellendale, ND on January 12, 1943. He attended Kentner Township Country School through the 7th grade and graduated from Ellendale High School in 1960. At the age of 14, Roy met and dated Virginia Rudolph of Fullerton, ND. He married his bride of 61 years on July 30, 1961, in Ellendale. Roy worked as a farm hired hand and then relocated to Denver, CO in 1963 where Roy received 2 years of vocational training in drafting and welding. Roy enjoyed many activities such as both water and snow skiing, fishing, camping, caving, enduro racing, jeeping, snowmobiling, and blazing new trails in the mountains on motor bike. In 1971 he moved his wife and two children to Rifle, CO where he and a friend started a painting business as well as vegetable farming and sales with his wife. In 1975 upon his father’s retirement from farming, he returned to the family farm in ND to purchase the home quarter building a dairy herd and small grain business together with Virginia and then later joined by his brother Donald and wife Elva who returned from Georgia. When necessary, Roy took other employment opportunities in door-to-door Christian book sales, framing houses and spent many winters employed by Innes Construction, constructing signage in new Menards stores. Roy was seriously injured in a farm accident while welding during the harvest of 1980. His brother and many neighboring farmers in the area completed the season’s harvest whilst he was hospitalized for 35 days. In 1987 his son Kirk, joined the farming business and they worked side by side until Roy’s health was compromised by Parkinson’s Disease. He fell asleep peacefully in Jesus on Thursday, March 16th at the Benedictine Living Community-Ellendale. He will be buried at the Ellendale City Cemetery at a later date.
