Vernard D. Brandenburger

Vernard Dale Brandenburger, 92 of Forbes, ND died December 4, 2022 at his home in Forbes. He was born March 13, 1930 to Reinhold and Ruth (Siewert) Brandenburger in rural Dickey County, ND. Vernard was raised on a farm in rural Dickey County and attended country school until the 8^th grade. He then moved to the home farm near Forbes where he attended high school in Forbes and graduated in 1951. After farming for a few years, Vernard went to Kansas for work where he met Naida Talley. They were married in June, 1957 at Scott City, KS. They moved to Fargo, ND where Vernard attended NDSU and worked as a police officer. They later moved to Colorado where he worked in a mine. In 1961 they moved to a farm near Forbes. In 1966 they purchased the family farm from his parents. In 1969 the family built a new home on the farm. Vernard continued to farm and raise cattle until his retirement in 1992. After retirement, Vernard worked part time for a farmer and traveled south in the winter. Vernard went on 26 cruises and a month-long trip to Europe. In 2004 Vernard purchased a home in Forbes. In 2008 Vernard married Judy McFarlane. Vernard enjoyed gardening, traveling, cooking, writing letters to his children and playing cards. He is survived by his wife Judy; his children Ivy Lunbery of Nebraska, Kyle (Margie) Brandenburger of Florida, Sheila (James) Brauer of North Dakota, Melba Richards of Texas, Mancel (Lori) Brandenburger of North Dakota, Eva (Craig) Bishop of Colorado; 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 step children, 5 step grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren; sisters Iris Steinwand, Norma (David) Martin, Nina Lee (Norman) Selze and many nieces and nephews. Vernard was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Tava Ullmeyer; 2 sisters Inga and Gloria, 3 brothers-in-law Louis, Art, Wayne.
